While converged networks allow a greater use of physical resources, they also introduce a layer of complexity which
can be dicult to manage. Ridgeline abstracts the complexity of multiple protocols running on the same physical
resources and empowers the operator to engineer the network for greater link eciency.
Ridgelineprovidesnetworkoperatorstheabilitytoeasily
create,visualize,andmanagetransporttechnologiessuchas
ProviderBridging(PB)andProviderBackboneBridging(PBB).
NetworkoperatorscanalsomoreeasilycreateVLANsand
EAPSresiliencydomains.Thesecapabilitiesalongwithutiliza-
tionstatisticsallownetworkoperatorstomorequicklydeter-
mineifadditionalsubscribersand/orservicescanbeadded
ontothenetworkwithoutimpactingexistingservices.
Ridgelineprovidescompleteend-to-endworkowstoimport
andreconcileexistingE-LineandE-LAN-basedcustomer
servicesinthenetwork.Theworkowshelpnetworkopera-
torstotakecontrolofexistingservicesinthenetworkandgain
visibilityintocustomerservicesandtheunderlyingtransport.
Onceimportedandreconciled,theservicescanbemodied
andvisualized.

Aserviceprovider’sprotabilitylargelydependsonhowmany
serviceinstancescanbesupportedonagiveninfrastructure
withoutcompromisingQualityofService.
Moreservicescanbeaddedontothenetworkbyincreas-
ingeciencythroughintelligentandproperuseofnetwork
resources.However,gainingdetailedvisibilityintothenetwork
usingCLImethodsinaneorttomanageandachieveopti-
mumnetworkutilizationcanbeaverycomplicatedandtime-
consumingprocess.
Toeasethischallenge,Ridgelineprovidessimpliedservice
engineeringcapabilities.
Powerfulnetworkdiscoveryandvisualizationprovideoperators
easieraccesstodetailednetworkusageinformationsuchas
bandwidth,link,orserviceutilizationstatisticsaswellastrac
patterns.Basedonthisinformation,networkoperatorscan
quicklyndoptimumtracroutesandmakethemostofband-
widthandlinkcapacitiestoavoidtraccongestionthatmay
otherwiseimpacttime-criticalservices.Onceoptimumpaths
arediscovered,re-routesaremoreeasilyestablishedusing
simplepointandclick.
